Details
of Membership Grades
Under the provision of the Royal Charter, membership is individual
and based on the applicant's professional education, training and
experience.
There is no provision
for membership of the Institute by a corporate body such as a transport/logistic
undertaking, but they are welcome to offer to support the Institute's work.
Membership grades
are divided into Chartered and Non-Chartered grades. Chartered grades are
honorary fellow,chartered fellow and chartered member.
Standards for these grades (see below) are controlled by international by laws
on a worldwide basis, and carry the post-nominals Hon FCILT, FCILT,
CMILT and MILT.
Non-Chartered
grades include Member with special provision fro student member. Members of the Institute, irrespective of their country or
place of residence are members of The Chartered Institute of Logistics
& Transport, the worldwide body.

These
fees may generally be claimed as a legitimate taxation exemption
under Sect. 51 (1) and 73 (3) of the Income Tax Act.
# To claim student
membership you must provide a certified copy of your current enrolment
as a FULL TIME student at an appropriate course of study.
The membership policy of CILTA is to encourage all appropriately qualified people to join. Our intention is for every facet of the Transport and Logistics Industry to be effectively represented within the CILTA organization.
CHARTERED FELLOW (FCILT)
The grade of Chartered Fellow is used to designate someone who has achieved a high level of eminence in the transport and logistics industry or in the Institute.
A Chartered Fellow, at the date of nomination
a) is a Chartered Member and holds, for at least seven consecutive years immediately preceeding a position or series of positions of responsibility in logistics and transport management or
b) prior to nomination has held such high positions or positions of responsibility in logistics and transport management and has achieved such eminence in regard thereto as in the opinion of the Council as justifies election as a Chartered Fellow or
c) has such special knowledge of the theory or practice of logistics and transport in any of its branches that election as a Chartered Fellow would in the opinion of the Council would be conducive to the achievement of the objects of the Institute
d) has rendered such a special contribution to the Institute that election as Chartered Fellow would in the opinion of the National Council would be conducive to the interests of the Institute.
It is not the normal practice for entry level to be at the grade of Chartered Fellow.
CHARTERED MEMBER (CMILT)
A Chartered Member is required to:
a) have completed education and training of a nature satisfactory to the council; and
b) is engaged in and has had relevant experience for at least five years in or in connection with logistics and transport management and a relevant qualification
c) at the date of election or transfer to the grade of Chartered Member is engaged in logistcs and transport management, and for at least five consecutive years immediately preceding has held a position or positions of responsibility in logistics and transport management satisfactory to the Council.
d) has at some time or times previous to nomination held a position or positions of responsibility satisfactory to the Council in logistics and transport management and has such special knowledge in regard thereto as in the opinion of the Council justifies the election to Chartered Member.
MEMBER (MILT)
An Member is required to:
a) have completed education and training of a nature satisfactory to the Council;
b) is engaged in and has had relevant experience for at least three years in or in connection with logistics and transport management.
STUDENT MEMBER
a) be a student in a CILTA approved relevant course and working in the transport and logistics industry.
b) be a graduate of a relevant course without industry experience, OR
c) be a person with an active interest in the transport and logistics industry.
NB To qualify for the Student Rate applicants must be FULL TIME Students in an approved course related to Transport & Logistics.
RETIRED MEMBER
Retired persons can retain their existing membership classification but pay a reduced subscription rate. A "retired" person is one who has retired and works no more than 20 hours a week.
