CILTA (Victoria Section) Transport, Distribution and Logistics Industry Awards

Statement of purpose

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Australia is the institute of choice providing leadership in research, policy and professional development and supports continuous improvement across the supply chain.

Victoria Section – Industry Awards

The Victoria Section is pleased to announce that nominations for the Industry Awards are now open.

The awards comprise three categories:

The awards are intended to provide both an incentive for and recognition of outstanding achievement in the fields of transport and logistics.

The nominees must be residents within the precinct of the Victorian Section. If you are not certain, please contact the Secretariat.

Nominees are requested to be in attendance at the Awards Night. They may be contacted prior to the event to confirm their attendance.

Achiever of the Year
(Victoria Section)

The Ian Bishop – CILTA Achiever of the Year Award

 

The late Ian Bishop was a Director of TNT and Ansett
and was a past Chair of CILTA.
He contributed significantly to the industry and community.

 

 About the Award

The intention of this award is to encourage and acknowledge the outstanding achievements of an individual who has made a notable contribution to transport and/or logistics in Australia.

The award consists of an Individual Trophy. The winner in each category will be the Victoria Section’s candidate in the National Industry Awards.

Nominees will be required to attend an interview where they will be provided with an opportunity to make a presentation on their work or projects for which they are nominated.

Who is eligible to nominate?

This award category is open to any person who is actively employed in a road, rail, sea or air transport organisation or an organisation that is related to the transport and logistics industry is eligible to enter.

The award is not restricted to a particular discipline in transport and may relate to areas including, but not limited to engineering, planning, policy, logistics, finance, administration or management.

Selection criteria

Nominees are required to submit a nomination form.

The employer or an appropriate professional association must sponsor the nominee for the Achiever of the Year Award. A letter of endorsement outlining reasons for sponsoring the nominee must be included with the submission.

Nominations will be accepted from any professional or their employer provided that the field of expertise is in the transport/logistics industry.

Nominees are required to describe their achievements in their chosen field. The supporting submission will comprise no more than 20 single sided sheets of A4 paper (including supporting documentation such as papers, drawings, photographs, media articles, etc.).

Nominations will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Personal achievement
  • Impact of contributions to the transport and/or logistics industry.
  • Have demonstrated leadership and/or organisational skills
  • Have proven project or program implementation skills
  • Creativeness
  • Professionalism
  • Any other comments in support of your nomination

Documentation to be submitted

  • Four (4) copies of the completed nomination form;
  • Four (4) copies of the supporting submission;
  • Four (4) copies of the letter of endorsement from the sponsor;
  • Four (4) copies of a brief resume of the nominee
  • Contact details of at least two (2) referees;
  • Any other relevant material.

Achievement of the Year
(Victoria Section)

The Leslie A Schumer OBE - CILTA Achievement of the Year Award

The late Leslie Schumer was the author of one of the first Australian transport text books, “Elements of Transport”
He was a life member of CILTA and a key instigator in developing formal courses in Transport & Logistics.

 

The purpose of the Award for Achievement of the Year is to acknowledge an outstanding, innovative contribution to a development in the transport and/or logistics industry by an organisation or an individual.

The nomination for Achievement of the Year may be from any of the listed categories:

  • A technical invention, process or system;
  • A new application of an existing process;
  • The design, construction and commissioning of a transport or logistics system;
  • A document outlining a practical concept, an industry policy or an administrative activity;
  • An outstanding contribution to the theory and understanding of the function of transport; or
  • Any category deemed appropriate by the Institute (CILTA).

Nominees for the Achievement of the Year are encouraged to submit applications that are creative. Nominations are to be presented in a format such as a presentation folder, book, video tape, PowerPoint presentation, etc and must be fully supported by documentary material, photographs, slides, graphs, diagrams/drawings, etc in order to suitably portray the merits of the project.

The nomination will clearly describe the nature of the achievement or proposal, the circumstances in which it was put into effect, the extent of the individual involvement of the entrant, the scale of the application, the results achieved and the significance of the achievement. Any innovative or original aspects are to be clearly stated.

The achievement is a project completed in the past two (2) years.

An authority from the project owner is to be included in the submission.

The Selection Panel may request from any entrant additional information in respect of an entry.

Nominations will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • That the achievement was developed in Australia and it relates to excellence in the transport and logistics industry
  • Improvement to transport/logistics;
  • Outstanding innovation;
  • Environmental credits;
  • Clarity of presentation;
  • Significance of achievement;
  • Results achieved;
  • Innovation and originality; and
  • That the nomination is a project completed in the past two (2) years.

Documentation to be submitted

  • Four (4) copies of the completed nomination form;
  • Four (4) copies of the supporting submission;
  • Four (4) copies of the authority from the project owner;
  • Any other relevant material.

Young Achiever of the Year
(Victoria Section)

The Minister of Transport – CILTA Young Achiever of the Year Award
The Award was created in 1995 by the then Minister of Transport. Successive Ministers have continued to sponsor this award acknowledging the
Importance in recognising and encouraging excellence in our future leaders.

About the Award

The award consists of an engraved Perpetual Trophy and Individual Trophy. The winner in this category will be fielded as the Victoria section’s candidate in the National Industry Awards.

The award is to provide both an incentive for and recognition of achievement of an individual who is actively involved in the day-to-day operations and development of a transport or logistics organisation in Victoria. The award is not limited to a particular discipline in transport but may relate to areas including, but not limited to engineering, planning policy, logistics, finance, administration or management.

Who is eligible to nominate?

Nominees for the Young Achiever of the Year shall be 30 and under as at 30 June 2007.

This award category is open to any young professional who is actively employed in a road, rail, sea or air transport organisation or an organisation that is related to the transport and logistics industry is eligible to enter.

The award is not restricted to a particular discipline in transport and/or logistics and may relate to areas including, but not limited to engineering, planning, policy, logistics, finance, administration or management.

Nomination Process

Nominees are required to submit a nomination form.

Conditions of entry

Nomination forms

All entries must be submitted with the appropriate nomination form.

Nominations close at 5.30 pm on 1 st June 2007.

Submissions

The submission must:

  • clearly outline the achievements of the nominee; and
  • indicate the level of involvement of the nominee.

All material submitted would remain strictly confidential to the judges. Descriptions of submissions from the winner and all nominees will be published in connection with the Awards. Entrants may however, mark certain sensitive parts of their entry ‘not for publication’ (such as exact budget figures etc,) provided such restrictions are not used unreasonably.

Presentation

If photographic images are provided they must be of good quality. Any electronic presentations (CD-ROM or disks) submitted must be free of any viruses. A good quality hard copy must accompany any electronic presentation.

Sponsor

The employer or an appropriate professional organisation must sponsor nominations for Achiever of the Year and Young Achiever of the Year.

A letter of endorsement from the sponsor forms part of the nomination. The sponsor’s letter of endorsement is to outline reasons for supporting the nomination.

Project/Asset Owner

An authority from the project/asset owner forms part of the nomination for Achievement of the Year.

The authority is to be on company letterhead with sign off from the Chief Executive Office, Managing Director, etc., or an authorised representative of the project/asset owner.

Selection

Judging panels will make the selection of the Achiever of the Year, Achievement of the Year and the Young Achiever of the Year. These panel members will be from or selected by the Victoria Section of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Australia.

The Selection Committees reserve the right not to make an award in the categories of Achievement of the Year and Achiever of the Year if, in their view, the standard of entries is such that it is not appropriate for the Award to be settled.

Award recipients

The successful nominees will be expected to:

  • Speak at a CILTA (Victoria Section) Function in the year of their Award on their work or project;
  • Be actively involved in promoting the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Australia;
  • Attend the Annual Awards activity and speak for 5 – 10 minutes on their achievements in the past year;
  • Participate in the National Industry Awards as the candidates representing the Victoria Section.

Records keeping and privacy

Your privacy is important to us. Your details will not be distributed to anyone not involved in the Awards Process.

All unsuccessful nominations will be destroyed after a period of six months.

The successful nominations will be retained and this documentation will be forwarded to the National Awards Committee for assessment.
